Shepherdstown Battlefield Preservation Association

The Land Trust of the Eastern Panhandle is a proud partner of the Shepherdstown Battlefield Preservation Association (SBPA). The SBPA is a non-profit dedicated to preserving the site of the 1862 Civil War battle just outside Shepherdstown, where Confederate forces drove back across the Potomac River Union troops pursuing them after the Battle of Antietam. In 2022, it raised $77,000 towards purchase of a key battlefield property, Far Away Farm, by the American Battlefield Trust. The SBPA sees as it mission to recruit volunteers to assist in the management of such battlefield properties, to promote education about the battle, and to ensure that opinion and concerns of local community members and neighbors of the battlefield are represented in discussions about management of such properties.
