Steve retired in 2016 after a successful career in investments and taxes. During his career, he dedicated significant time to local government and non-profit organizations, including a local historical preservation group and the chamber of commerce. In 1992, he and his wife founded The Opequon Watershed, Inc. (TOW), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on promoting education, protection, and enjoyment of Opequon Creek.
Steve holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Richmond and was awarded two NSF summer biology research grants. He has always been passionate about the outdoors and nature, culminating in three years as president of the Foundation of the State Arboretum of Virginia.
Steve and his wife have restored several historical buildings, including Fiddlers Bottom, where they now reside. They enjoy gardening, maintaining a large greenhouse with tropical plants, and various outdoor activities. The farm has been in the family since the 1950s and is currently under a conservation easement.
